IPL 2018: Kane Williamson appointed SRH captain

It has been a crazy week in the cricketing world after the ball tampering saga in Cape Town unfolded with three Australian players recieving sanctions from their board. After Smith was replaced by Rahane to captain Rajasthan Royals, it was the turn of Sunrisers Hyderabad to replace David Warner with New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson for IPL 2018 season.

“We are happy to announce Kane Williamson as the captain of SunRisers Hyderabad for IPL 2018,” SRH CEO K. Shanmugam said.

The stylish right handed batsman has accepted the offer and is looking forward to the new challenge.

“I have accepted the role to stand in as captain this season. It’s an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenges ahead,” Williamson said.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday barred Warner and Steve Smith from participating in IPL Season 11.

“They (Cricket Australia) have banned two players and we are also barring these two players from this year’s IPL,” IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla told reporters.
