IPL 2018: Rahane replaces Smith as Royals skipper

After one of the most controversial and dark days in Australian cricket happened in Cape Town when captain Smith admitted to have involved in ball tampering, Rajasthan Royals have decided to replace the captaincy role with Ajinkya Rahane.

The franchise is coming back after serving a two year ban after being charged with corruption along with Chennai Super Kings.

“Steve believes given the current circumstances ‘It’s in the best interest of the Rajasthan Royals that he steps down as Captain so the team can get ready for the start of the IPL without the ongoing distractions.’ He would like to extend his gratitude to the BCCI officials and all the fans in India for their constant support,” Rajasthan Royals’ head of cricket Zubin Bharucha was quoted as saying in a media release.

Royals’ mentor and former Australian leg spinner Shane Warne, who is also in Cape Town for his commentary stint is understood to have spoken Steven Smith about the whole incident.
